 Maui is known to local residents as no ka oi or the best. It offers miles of beautiful white sand beaches, and the horseshoe-shaped isle of Molokini, whose waters teem with vibrantly colored tropical fish. Maui is home to Haleakala, the world's largest dormant volcano. Sunrise at Haleakala crater is not to be missed. The more adventurous will want to sign up for bicycle rides down Haleakala, which are offered by several companies. Travelers should also plan on spending a day traveling the winding road to Hana.
Maui's flower is the pink lokelani, or heavenly rose. Maui is the only island to have a non-native flower. The pink lokelani was brought to Hawaii in the 1800s and is prized by gardeners for its beauty and fragrance.
